Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rye whiskey
  • 0.75 oz Fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz Fresh orange juice
  • 0.5 oz Grenadine
  • 1 Cherry, for garnish

Method

  1. Chill a coupe with ice water.
  2. Add the rye, lemon juice, orange juice, and grenadine to a shaker. Fill it with ice.
  3. Shake hard for 12 seconds.
  4. Empty the coupe. Strain the drink into it.
  5. Add the cherry.

Tips

  • Use real grenadine made from pomegranate. It tastes better than a red syrup.
  • Cut the grenadine to 0.25 oz for a drier drink.

Best rye for the Ward Eight

Rye is the classic base. Its spice keeps the juice and grenadine from tasting sweet.
